Server Up Mostly

The sheepserver is delivering sheep again, so the screensaver should work again.  Please donate to offset the expenses that I am now paying out of my pocket.

The authentication server isn't up yet so you'll still get an error "Can't connect to server, using free one" but you can ignore it and it should be fine.  You can use the F2 key to check the downloading status.  You will also get an error trying to enter your drupal login to the config page, just ignore the error until we get the rest of the server fixed, and don't enter your account info.

You can suppress the "Can't connect" error (and all errors) by editing your config file and setting "silent_mode" to true.

Many thanks to some folks at VHS and DVLABS for supporting version 2.7 until this point.

Awesome Spot

I appreciate all your hard work with this - I have always been know for having cool screensavers, but ES is by far the best.

A new problem?

Hi Spot,

Thanks a lot for your help in this thread. I'm wondering if there is a new (but perhaps related) problem going on with the server. I've described it in the following thread:

http://community.electricsheep.org/node/323

Would you be willing to take a look?

downloads come from coral

downloads come from coral CDN; different users get connected to different cache servers with different performance and quota characteristics which can change over time.  if you are getting any data at all, then it's working.

that said, i am working on bringing more servers on line which should increase the performance of the system.  it will be announced here.

Thanks a lot for taking a

Thanks a lot for taking a look. For some reason, though, it's actually not downloading sheep at all. I wanted to be sure, so I've left my home computer on for 2 days now (I changed the power saving settings to make this possible). The screen saver runs, but no sheep are downloading.

One possible reason is that my mpeg folder has the entire 243 flock but no sheep from 244. I know that it isn't downloading anything because no 244 sheep show up (plus I check Date Modified timestamps). Will it not download flock 244 if it's currently running ONLY flock 243?

Under Drupal authentication, it says, "...logged in..." I did move the Content Directory to c:\ESheep. HTTP download is checked and I just turned "Debugging Log" on. (It was off.) Other details of my setup are in the thread I referenced above.

Thanks again for your time.

i believe i have the newest one but i can un/reinstall it - im guessing it would be in C: and it says i have 70% free space ;/ i found the electric sheep folder in prgram files but i couldnt find any sheep...

Thanks

Wow, that's something that I wouldn't have figured out on my own... Thank you, though, it worked.

Desperate for sheep!

I've been a fan of ES for several years now, and I always get compliments on it, and have turned a number of people onto it.  However, I have yet to be able to get it working since the problems over the summer.  I've even completely eradicated it and re-downloaded it and installed it, and still no love.

It seems from comments and from the main status page that it should be working, so I finally raise my hand and ask, "help?  I need my electric sheep!"

Running OSX 10.5.8, with 2.7b17

Thanks,

Similar Problem

I too am having problems.  I cannot get any electric sheep to download, I have to get them from packs that I have to download maually.  Well it does look good, it still keeps saying that I cannot find the server.  I don't think it's downloading.

if you look in the

if you look in the content/mpeg directory and sort the files by date, you should be able to tell for sure if it's downloading.

what's the problem?

Double post, sorry

Hey ES, sorry for double post, but after some more scouring of the forums on here, it seems that everyone agrees logging in is FAIL as of right now, sooo, if i download an S*** ton of packs and such and having the Setup/Config to not log in eventually while viewing packs ive downloaded ill see new downloaded sheeps?

Finally working, though no network connection

Hey ES, nice to see vista is finally compatible. after installing the latest beta and putting in a few sheep packs all is "working" although it seems it never connects to the ES server, even with logging in. i was getting the Black screen with logo stating to goto the site and register, which i have obviously, tells me im logged in and such on here as well as in the configuration menu. is the server just down? i'm ok getting packs as there seem to be a decent amoun to get. but i miss the old evolving getting suprised by new screens that ES should be. i use to have it a few years back on XP and would always blow my mind. the surrogate packs are ok for now... hope ES is not dying. any input on this subject is mucheee appreciated ^__________________^

I'm having this problem too

^ It says that "downloading was disabled due to low disk space" - this is a new(er) computer and there is no way thats true -  I have tried removing my login info - but it doesnt seem to be connecting ....

Any help?/

Just Wait!?

Howboutcha, Scott

I gotta question forya. Reddy?

Can you think of a way that I could setup ES so that the pagefile that runs when I open up the program manually, and qlik Run, wood run in the backround AS the desktop? Now I think that would look dizzying, and absolutly magnificent.

On another  prev- post to this stated that "This is the best screen saver ever Hands Down" well DITTO

Oh and thanx whenever I hit the mega millions I'll surely repay you for all youre generosity (free) software %)

For Mac users the best way to get rid of the error message..

Going to my config file in ~user/library/applicationsupport/elecrticsheep/electricsheep.cfg

and opening it with txt editor and changing the line with the words silent mode it it to true instead of false..

this worked great and now I am slowly but surely downloading when the server is up and the program looks great.

used it recently for a party at our new house.. told everyone to download the new es and to donate what they could.

As soon as I am making more money again I will donate all that I can.. in the meantime thank you to everyone for the hard work and efforts.

keep it up!

Namaste

Bittorrent?

I thought sheep were served using Bittorrent... Wouldn't that work better in terms of speed and hosting costs?

Status of servers

Hi guys,

I've read thorugh the above, but am still a little confused.

Should everything work perfectly now (so if I have a problem logging in, it is probably at my end) or are there still known issues with the autencication?

What does "sheep are back" mean, exactly?

I still cannot log in,

Frederik

you cannot log in, but it

you cannot log in, but it should deliver sheep if you do not.  it certainly isn't perfect though because our bandwidth is limited, which means it might take a long time for it to download for you.

Sorry, Still not getting sheep

As of 8/30, 2:00 PM PDT, no downloads in 7 days.  Using beta 18 on Windows.  I have cleared the user/password, it seems to think I am still logged in.

it is referencing r2d7c when I press F2. I don't know if it matters, because my system appears to be resolving v2d7c and r2d7c to the same IP address.

Also it is rendering sheep frames, so it does appear to be contacting a server somehow.

Is the server down again?  Do I need to apply some trick to get this working?

Thanks for all the effort on this, spot.  Crazy times for you, I'm sure.

Sorry it's not working.  I

Sorry it's not working.  I guess CoralCDN works better in some places than in others.  Pretty soon we should have yet another & better system working.... in the meantime the new packs should keep you busy.

Ah, so it IS still a server

Ah, so it IS still a server problem then.  I thought the server was supposed to have been fixed and something relse was up.

OK, I'll be patient.  :)

Server Request Failed, etc.

When running ES, (I've got some sheep from an earlier installation... version 2.7b15a) I get this message: Server request failed, using free one

Server is http://r2d7R sheepsaver.net/

sheep #244.464 (failed) sheepserver request (failed)

Hmm...

'Fraid to speak too soon, but the VHS server seems to be up again... That is, I have more sheep, and I can download the sheep packs. ^_^

:(

Umm... the cdn site is down again. :\ (Btw, that stands for "Content Distribution Network", right?) I managed to get 244.464 and 244.504, but that is all. Running the linux client from the terminal eventually gives this error:

curl: (7) couldn't connect to host
subprocess error: anim download, 1792=7<<8+0
download failed of sheep 92

I tried to wget http://cdn0.sheepserver.net/packs, and I couldn't even get just the page. The server does not respond to ping requests. Do you think maybe the server couldn't handle the bandwidth? I will still render frames though, right?

the packs are up in a new

the packs are up in a new location, please try again.

yup, thanks for the note!

yup, thanks for the note!

Problem still seems to exist..

I'm still having the server problems which others described here. Even reinstalled a couple times, totally removing configs and such. Even tried changing servers in configs, or the hosts workaround. No luck with anything.

I was, however, able to access the server page via webbrowser, and manually download a bunch of sheep. And those work just fine. Plays them back beautifully, and it hasn't deleted them accidentally either.

Just seems it's having a problem connecting to the server, or downloading the files itself. =/

I usually get "Server is not yet known" from F2 or "Server request failed, using free one" every now and then in the middle. Once in a while it will say the server is r2d7c.sheepserver.net, and very rarely it will have active download information in F2, but even then it never says anything other than 0%. So it's obviously not downloading.

server request error

that the message which i recieve.. it doesnt work

Update on downloading?

Spot, I'm slightly confused with the download situation. I have a clean b18 install and one sheep (as others do) but nothing at all is downloading now. Do you have any idea when this is likely to be resolved? (Windows 32 Bit)

Many Thanks.

The distribution server is

The distribution server is down right now and I haven't heard from its owner about its status.

Thanks.

Thanks.

tru

yer i probally should have used the word could insted of will, im runnin on a 22 inch display, looks so mint, but so lonely. little sheepy with no flock

kill ES ??

what is hapening to you is exactly same for me

but kill ES i dought

ive been useing ES for years and love it   and i will keep returning till the bug is fixed

theres just not another screen saver out can touch it

ive made a number of ES converts over the years including a freand with a band that now uses ES as backdrop at little local shows sometimes for background efects

and also when i got my new comp with large moneter and great graphics cards the older ES lookeed a bit grainy on it but this new one even tho i only have one poor little lonly sheep   it looks great so im pationt ill wait for a fix

when it comes ill get waisted and injoy :)  ok moderator you can cut that last bit out if you want lol

this will kill ES

this is defiantly a code issue, downloaded the latest releast on 3 different comps(windows) on 3 different connections. Each cant access a sever for about 30 mins. it then says using free one but i dont think there are any connects been made at all. nothing came up in net_stat. sad cause this will impact on subscribers... and in turn new sheep...

ok strange the posts b4 mine

ok strange the posts b4 mine seem to have skiped from the problem to thanks for the fix  but i saw no fix

maybe its just me

i just instaled the latest release and it is showing one sheep constantle and nothing is downloading when i hit f2 it sais "server is not known yet"

whe i go under settings there is a place to log in whitch i dont remember doing with the old sheep   so i went to site and made an acount

confermed acount

then when i tryed to log in (several times, password checked)

it fails the first time then if i try again the options window stops responding

its been running the sane sheep for 3 hours now

so could someone repost or email me the missing solution to these problems

im all exited to have a new better sheep  but so far my little lamb is acting lame

now mine shows the right

now mine shows the right server, but under it says the sheep number, but never downloads

A clue or just nothing at all

I noticed a minor detail about the new server.Whenever the sheep screensaver comes up on my pc it only recognizes the sheep server as http://r2d7c.sheepserver.net/

But!When I look at the sheep server at its address it instead says  http://v2d7c.sheepserver.net/

See the difference?Could this be the reason why my screensaver isn't downloading more sheep even though I see fresh new ones right now?

What do you mean it

What do you mean it "recognizes the sheep server as"?  What client are you running?  The correct address is "v2d7c".

Hitting F2 this morning using

Hitting F2 this morning using the newly relased b18 (clean install) does indeed tell me the server is 'r2d7c' NOT 'v2d7c'. No sheep...(other than 429)

What I mean is that everytime

What I mean is that everytime the screensaver (yes,I'm using the latest 2.7 version) comes up and I press F2 to see how the download progress is going,it shows me a "r2d7c" address and nothing downloads.I tried changing the address to the correct one (v2d7c) in the config file but when the screensaver comes back on it always switches back to (r2d7c).

Also weird is that I tried downloading the new 244 flock sheep from here manually and putting them in the mpeg folder. But when the screensaver comes on,it deletes them.So when I check the mpeg folder there are no traces of the new 244 flock left.Weird stuff.Any ideas?
