Earn Sheep Credits for mobile app?
TL;DR = Want sheep now? buy them. have patientce? render some sheep.
Since we can make accoutns for the desktop client (and the mobile app?) can you implement some sort of earned credit system, where a user enables rendering on their laptop or desktop after logging in, and once rendering is started, they can earn credits to download more sheep to their mobile device by conributing rendering time to the flock.
no because it would be
no because it would be incredibly hard to connect the two accounts. and the tracking of rendering is not reliable. and the sheep are not expensive anyway.
Randomization?
When I tap the homescreen (on the live wallpaper), the sheep changes to another, but after a few changes, it starts to stop being 'random' and instead changes back to a specific sheep set. (Not sure what to call it -- flock is all of your downloaded sheep. I'm referring to the 'set' associated with a number in the index.) When I look in my index within the app, I see many sheep. I can select them, and view them, but as with the live wallpaper, when I get to the end of the sheep set, it goes back to the other sheep set I was trying to avoid. I looked all through the options, but see nothing about randomization.

this is what i added to the description to clarify:
Note: the sheep that you download are saved on your SD card. You can back them up yourself, and share them among your devices. But if a device is wiped, the sheep on it are lost. You can restore the app, and it will come with points that you can download new sheep.
The Sheep are ephemeral, like tears in rain...

there's a review of v1.5 and 1.6 that says the new versions have a lower frame rate than our initial release. has anyone else seen this happen? what is your phone make, model, and OS version?
release notes for v1.5 and v1.6
Loop Lock to repeat your favorite sheep forever. Tap with two fingers or use the preferences to toggle this mode.
Parallax mode for switching pages on the home screen. Turn this on from the preferences to stretch the sheep to cover your whole desktop, so when you switch pages the sheep will scroll with your icons.
Instant start after install. The app comes with a sheep built-in so it starts playing instantly after install, instead of having to wait while it goes to the sheep server.
New download mode: none. You can disable downloading unconditionally if you want to save your bandwidth or download credits.
New battery protection feature. When your battery is less than 10% then the wallpaper stops running and stops downloading. You can adjust the percentage threshold from the preferences.
Also, plenty of UI polish, and a couple of crashes fixed.
v1.6 was a bugfix of v1.5, there was a problem with the download mode widget.
200 credits in1.5
In the release notes for 1.5, it says the app comes with 200 credits. Will users who purchased before 1.5 receive a 100 credit gift?
no but the new version also
no but the new version also reduces the price of new credits by half, so when you go to get more with the in-app purchase, you can get twice as many.

What is the "Remove reminder" option for?
Does the app pause when the display is off?
BTW, I love the fact that my android now does dream of electric sheep!
if you run out of download
if you run out of download credits, then it will occasionally flash an "empty" symbol. and if you have it set to download on wifi only, and it can't download it will flash a yellow warning. that option suppresses these notices.
correct the app does not run when the screen is off.
thanks, glad you like it!

False alarm earlier. I got it now. I nearly shit myself seeing this thread.
Yay!!! Thank you!
I've been dreaming of Electric sheep on the go since I got the iPhone 3g. Now that I have android running on my Hp Touchpad, I have 20ish/20ish running pretty smooth.
I appreciate the hard work, and I'm glad to see you're making a bit of money off it too.

Samsung Droid Charge/Transparency
I've just installed Electric Sheep on my Samsung Droid Charge, running Verizon-supplied Android 2.3.6. The FPS reading shows as (approx) 1.8 / 14.5.
I have seen other opacity-based transitions (the use of transparency to blend consecutive frames of output) take a long time to work on this model. Facebook now uses opacity-based transitions on Android, and it too is quite slow on the Droid Charge. So, I'd sooner pin the responsibility for the slowness on the underlying graphics infrastructure.
The patterns are still quite beautiful in slow motion, so I plan to conduct a battery test later today during a meeting. If anything notable happens from that, I'll post separately.
thanks for the report. the
thanks for the report. the target fps is 2/20 so your speed is not that far off from what's intended. it doesn't play back at normal video speed because that would be distracting as wallpaper, and it would also eat up more battery. with the default settings it shouldn't show up on the battery usage list (<1% usage).
Probably should've expected
Probably should've expected it, but the app runs terribly on my LG Optimus V; max FPS of ~4.5 actual, with max FPS of ~9 "smoothness" playback. I would've gotten a refund if I had known about Google's disgusting 15 minute window of opportunity to request one.
Availability of the app on Google TV?
I was curoius if there was a way to allow the app to run on G TV's.
I tried to get the app but the link is gray and says its incompatable.
I hope you can do something to fix this as ES on my 40 in GTV would be amazing:)
p.s. typed on my qwerty gtv remote ;)

Glad you like it. I don't know anything about making it work on GTV but I'll look into it. It might not be as good as you imagine since the resolution on the TV would be the same as on the phone, so it would be pretty blurry compared to other stuff you see on the TV.
v1.4 released
New icons, update documentation, UI polish.

Hi
Just a couple of queries if I may.
Wondering if the app will work on an HTC desire HD after the bug fix?
and how long/is there a timetable of when the app bug will be fixed?
Really appreciate the work gone into electricsheep.
Thank you

sorry you got bitten by the bug. i think it was actually a server problem which i have now fixed. however in order for it to work right, you probably have to delete your current electricsheep folder (on the SD card). you can do this with the app astro file manager. please let me know if that works for you.
a fixed client that does not require hacking with astro (among other things) should come in a day or two.

version 1.1 with this fix as well as a few others is released and in the market. you should get an automatic update eventually, or you can go to its page and tap on update.
Hi Thank you the fix works.
